Some general info ~
In its earliest use, akhara referred to training halls for professional wrestlers & Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have started the akhara system in the 8th century AD. to prepare a warrior class that could fight for Hinduism against foreign invaders. The soul of the Akhara system lies in the encouragement of monks who wish to leave behind all materialistic luxuries, including the warmth of family, to preserve the order of Hinduism embodied by the sacred 16 sanskara of Hindu mythology. Each akhara has a hierarchy beginning with Mahamandaleshwara, who lives in their respective mathematics. All akharas have an administrative body called Panc and Sabhapati acts as the president. Akharas and his general called Mahamandaleshwara enter with their procession which is called PARVESHA. After Mahamandaleshwar are Mandaleshwar and Mahant beyond him in the hierarchy of the Akharas. Resignants must have at least a minimum of 12 years of practice. There is no minimum age for the saint & in several cases, children have also been named mahant. The position in an Akhara depends on his spiritual strength, regardless of any basis such as caste. Severe punishments are ordered if ascetics do not follow the rules of Akharas. Each of them makes a bid and their respective flags are displayed. Furthermore, there is a hierarchy below the Mahant such as Karbaris, Thanapati, Sacvis, Pujaris, Kotvals and Kotharis, who are chosen in Kumbh mela along with all other important rituals in progress.
